The Final (BCS) Curtain

The last game of the Bowl Championship Series deserves a standing ovation. After two clunkers in 2011 (Alabama 21, LSU 0) and 2012 (Alabama 41, Notre Dame 14) this one delivered on everything this contest was ever meant to be.

Alabama once again figured in the outcome, but this time members of the Crimson Tide were not present. Instead, another team from the state faced a quarterback born there, as Florida State defeated Auburn 34-31.

During the first half it appeared the feisty lair of Tigers might just devour the tribe of Seminoles without even the need for a miraculous outcome as had been the case in their 2 prior contests.

The score at halftime was 21-10 in Auburns favor and that was thanks to a late drive by Florida State in the 2nd quarter, ending with Devonta Freemans 3 yard run into the end zone with 1:28 remaining in the frame. The touchdown was made possible by FSU coach Jimbo Fisher's gutsy call of a fake punt on 4th down and 4 preceding the TD.

The Seminoles than made it an official one touchdown (plus 2 point conversion) deficit when kicker Roberto Aguayo hit a field goal from 41 yards out making the score 21-13.

That's when the fun began. The two teams traded scores throughout the 4th quarter. Unfortunately for Auburn, Florida State tallied 21 during this process versus the Tigers 10. Six of the Seminole points in the final half came courtesy of a 100 yard kickoff return by freshman speedster Levonte Whitfield to put FSU up 27-24 with 4:31 remaining.

Alabama's Crimson Tide Rolls Out to Sea

Since 2009 Alabama has been the most prominent program in all of NCAA football. This of course includes three national titles secured in 2009 and the back to backs of 2011-2012. All indications were that they would be competing for the championship again in 2013 before losing to Auburn on the last play of the "Iron Bowl" in the SEC Championship game.

Florida State jumps Oregon

Yet another #1 team this week after Florida State absolutely embarrassed Clemson this past weekend, 51-14. Easily becoming the most impressive win of the season so far, and doing so without leaving much doubt. This Florida State team is looking extremely legit. If they can avoid their recent curse of dropping games they shouldn't during the season, they may just be a team in Pasadena. Many people have them #3 in the pecking order overall, but make no mistake, they are in the thick of it.
